Average Repair Costs
Many times I can repair an
Appliance for just £19.
Often I can have your appliance repaired quite quickly and
without needing to fit any new parts.
In that case, all you will
pay is £19.
Here are some everyday
examples of repairs I have carried out for customers, how much I charged and how much I saved them.
Beko Washing Machine in Aghalee. This Washing Machine was washing ok, but not always spinning.
The customer had checked the filter, but it was clear. I checked the machine and found a typical Beko fault. The sump hose breather pipe was blocked. I cleared it and ran the machine through 3 rinse and spin cycles, to make sure it was repaired. My charge in this case was £19. I left this Washing Machine working perfectly and saved the customer £57
Calling a Beko Engineer would have cost them £76.
Hoover Nextra Washing
Machine in Richill.
The customer explained the machine was
sticking half way through the cycle and even when she turned it to
spin, it wasn't spinning properly.
The Hoover Nextra machine does have a filter which can
be cleaned out, but Hoover decided to make it very difficult for an
owner to do this easily.
I took the pump off, cleaned it and all
the hoses out (there was a child's sock stuck
in one of the hoses)
I was able to sort this machine for £39
The machine is working fine now.
Hoover Charge £105.00 for this repair.
I saved this customer £66.00
Creda Condenser Tumble Dryer
in Brownstown Park,
Portadown.
The machine was working, but there was no
hot air and so the clothes were not being dried. I took the back off
the dryer re-set the thermostats, cleaned out the burnt fluff and washed out the steam condensor. The machine is now working
fine.
Total Repair Cost from aidenmackle.com
was just £35
***(Don't try this yourself, if
you are not 100% sure what you are doing. Do it wrong and you will
destroy the heating element and a new heating element for a Creda
Condenser Dryer is £38.00)***
Creda Charge £118.00 for this repair.
I saved this customer £83.00
Bosch Maxx Washing Machine in
Lurgan. The machine was going through the cycle
ok, but the drum was not turning and also the machine wasn't
spinning. I fitted a set of genuine Bosch carbon brushes to the motor,
skimmed and de-carboned the motor and armature. The machine is now
working fine.
Total Repair Cost in this case was £58
including the cost of the new genuine Bosch parts.
Bosch charge £88.00 for this repair.
I saved this customer £30.00
Hotpoint Dishwasher in
Annaghmore.
Again going through the cycle ok, but no
heat to clean or dry the dishes. The 1st thing I noticed was that the
plastic control panel had a great big crack in it and a piece missing
from it as well. I know Hotpoint/Indesit and Ariston Dishwashers have
a problem with the heating element going faulty too. I was able to
fit a complete control panel (second hand) and a new heating element,
the machine is now working fine.
I charged £68 which included the cost of
the new (and second hand) parts.
Hotpoint Charge £118 for this repair and
the customer will have to wait up to 3 weeks for Hotpoint to order
the parts.
I completed the repair the next day,
saving this customer weeks of waiting on parts and saved them £50.00
as well.
Zanussi 1400 Spin Washing
Machine in Killycomaine, Portadown.
Every time the customer turned this
machine on, it started up for about 2 minutes, then all the lights on
the control panel flashed and the machine stopped. I checked the
machine and found that the main PCB (printed circuit board) was
faulty and I suspect it was caused by a faulty motor. This machine
needed 2 major new parts. A motor at £152 and
a pcb at £118. That was going to be £270 to repair a 7 year
old machine. I advised this customer against going ahead with the
repair. In this case I charged £25, but I also gave the customer the
best advice I could in the circumstances.
Zanussi would have charged £88 just to
call out to this machine.
Although I gave this customer bad news, I
only charged £25. Which is £63.00 less than calling a Zanussi Engineer.
Zanussi Washing Machine in
Tandragee.
Same thing again, but a different
outcome.
Every time the customer turned this
machine on, it started up for a couple of minutes, then all the
lights on the control panel flashed and the machine stopped. I
checked the machine and found a faulty heating element. I fitted a
new element and the machine is working fine now.
Total Repair Cost from aidenmackle.com
including the new heating element was £58
Zanussi would have charged £98 to repair
this machine.
I saved this customer £40
Hotpoint WMA 64 Washing
Machine in Lurgan.
These machines have 3 plastic Paddles or
(Drum lifters) inside the drum. They are very easy to fit and this
customer had bought and fitted 10 of them over the last few months.
The local appliance shop was charging £14 for each drum lifter. So
they had spent £140 in the last few months on drum lifters alone.
I explained that the reason the lifters
kept breaking was because a coin
or something was caught between the inner (stainless steel) drum and
the (plastic) outer drum.
I cleaned out the drums from underneath, fitted
3 new drum lifters and charged £46.

If this customer had called me at the
start, then they wouldn't have wasted £140
buying parts at the local Appliance shop and I would have saved them
£94.00
Creda Tumble Dryer in
Gilford.
Typical problem with all
new Hotpoint, Creda and Indesit Tumble Dryers. A broken drive
belt. The Customer had fitted 3 belts to this Hotpoint Dryer in the
last year and they had all snapped within 4 months.
They had been buying the belts from ebay
which is usually ok if the parts are Genuine, but
they had been getting cheap pattern copies and not the genuine
Hotpoint/Creda/Indesit part.
The difference in price is. A cheap
pattern belt is about £6.50, but a Genuine Hotpoint/Indesit/Ariston
belt is almost £12.
I explained this to the customer and also
explained that if these "copy" belts are fitted by hand, they
will always get damaged and so a belt which is of poor
quality in the 1st place, which then also gets damaged while being
fitted, may only last a couple of weeks.
I fitted a Genuine Hotpoint belt to this
dryer.
I used a Hotpoint/Creda/Indesit
Belt Fitting Tool and showed the customer how they had been
fitting the belt incorrectly themselves in the past.
I charged £38 which included a full 6
months parts and labour guarantee.
Hotpoint would have charged £118,
offered no advice and given only 3 months guarantee.
I saved this
customer £80 and if they had called me the 1st time instead
of buying and fitting cheap belts themselves, I
would have saved them another £19.50 in wasted money buying
cheap copy/pattern parts.
They also now know, the correct part to
buy and the correct way to fit it in future, should they decide to do
it themselves next time.
Indesit Washing Machine in
Lurgan.
This customer called me and told me that
there had been a loud crack from
the washing machine
and that the door rubber was now badly twisted and it looked as
though the drum had dropped.
This is a typical Indesit washing machine
problem. A broken tub support spring.
As luck would have it, I
had an Indesit washing machine on my van which I was going to
drop off at the re-cycling depot.
I took both the springs off the old machine,
fitted one to the customers machine and gave them the other one as a spare.
I completed this repair for £42
Indesit Charge £115.00 for this repair.
I saved this customer £73.00
Integrated Dishwasher in Bleary.I spent about 1/2 an hour working on this dishwasher
just to get it disconnected and pulled out, before I could even begin checking it. Then it turned out the main motor unit was the problem. @ £150 plus vat for the new part, I advised this customer to go and buy a new dishwasher.
So as not to leave the kitchen looking bad, I offered to re-fit the dishwasher back into it's space, but I also explained to the customer that it would really be better to leave it disconnected.
Reason.
No matter where you buy your new dishwasher. They won't fit the new one unless the old appliance has already been disconnected and removed.
I this case I charged £35 to cover my Time, my Journey, my Work and Advice.
Bosch, Hotpoint, Hoover, or any of the main companies would all have charged at least £90 and they would all have been advising this customer to spend the £150 plus vat, plus labour to have this machine repaired. It's how they make their money.
With aidenmackle.com Repairs to Integrated and Built in appliances are £35 plus parts.
Think about this.
A typical Hotpoint Engineer makes around 10 calls per day at a minimum charge of £105. That means they collect £1050 every day for Hotpoint.
Hotpoint have 86 Engineers, so if you multiply £1050 by 86 Hotpoint Engineers. That comes to £90,300 pounds Hotpoint collect every day.
Multiply that by 5 days a week. It comes to an income of almost 1/2 a million Hotpoint collect every week in repairs alone, and that's just in the UK.
Update on buying
parts from
ebay try very hard to ensure that
everything they sell is a genuine
item.
In the last 2 years ebay has been flooded
with cheap fake parts from China. They look exactly like the real
thing, but in many cases only last a matter of weeks, or worse, they
cause damage to your appliance.
Last year I ordered some "Genuine
Hotpoint Carbon Brush kits" from a trusted ebay powerseller.
Within 2 to 3 weeks every one of these
parts failed and caused the motor's in Hotpoint Washing machines to
burn out.
I returned what was left of these parts
to the ebay seller and got a full refund, but when I asked about the
extra damage these "Fake parts" caused to the motor's.
I
was told to read the terms and conditions of sale. They said "The
seller takes no responsibility nor assumes any liability for any
damage that may or may not be directly or indirectly caused by
fitting or using these parts"
I had customers with Hotpoint Washing
Machines who had the motor's burn out as a result of me fitting these
fake parts.
I corrected any problems my customers had, free of charge.
I learned an expensive lesson.
Some times the "Cheaper Option" can work out "More Expensive"
I have one supplier in Northern Ireland
"Multipart" in Ballymena, I have done business with them for
30 years and my Father before me used "Multipart" as well.
The parts they supply to me are more expensive, but I know for sure they are the correct
parts, from the correct manufacturers and will do the job they are
meant to do.
If you decide to buy any spare parts through ebay
1. Be very careful
2. Make sure they are the genuine item
3. Ask the seller if the parts you buy
cause any damage to your machine, will they stand up and cover your
losses.
4. If they can't say yes, maybe consider
buying your parts elsewhere.
I have seen more fake parts than you can
believe. The packaging always looks identical to the original item.
